Description

Measurement module for the MTS platform for measuring chromatic dispersion (CD), polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and attenuation profile versus wavelength (AP)

With this module the measurement of a fiber with respect to CD, PMD and AP is possible without changing the connection. The method of phase shifting is characterized by high precision and has the advantage of using components on the track, like EDFAs, to be able to measure through. The measurement requires an external broadband source (BBS).

Both the MTS6000 and the MTS8000 can be used as the basic unit.

Specification:

1. PMD

Messmethode: Fixed Analyzer Method with Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT)
Wavelength range: 1260 -1640 nm
dynamic range: 58 dB (65 dB dependent from BBS)
measuring range DGD: 0,08 bis 130 ps
accuracy: +/-0,02 ps absolut
measuring time: 16 sec.


2. CD

Messmethode: Phase shift
Wavelength range: 1260 -1640 nm (depending on the source)
Wavelength accuracy: +/-0,1 nm
Minimum measuring length: 1 km
Dynamic: 45 dB bis 55 dB (depending on BBS)
Accuracy of the zero dispersion-WL: +/-1,5 nm
measuring time: 40-80 s



3. Attenuation Profile
Representation of the fiber attenuation over the wavelength
Wavelength range: 1260 -1640 nm (inkl. water peak @ 1383 nm)

There are two modules with different Wavelength ranges available (medium and long range, see data sheets on the right)
