Description
A whitebox in combination with a telecom network is only the "bare" standard hardware. It is the fundamental building block in a network. It enables the implementation of a software-defined-network (SDN) -based network.
The optical fiber monitoring system (OFM) is one of these white boxes, so open and manufacturer-neutral, therefore perfect for today's and tomorrow's demands.
The OFM system identifies and localizes quality deteriorations of the fiber exactly through aging, errors or cyber attacks and informs the network operator and the manager with detailed information on the location of the fault. Measurement plans allow network operators to evaluate the long-term levels of the fiber and to implement efficient asset management on this basis.
An OFM increases the productivity in the repair time (MTTR) and simplifies the management of fiber optic networks with less effort for technicians by remote testing and an exact documentation of the installed fiber optic cable from the beginning.
Legal basis for the network operator:
Lumentum offers free Their proven management software "Multi Node Manager" for operating the OFMs. This tool provides all functions necessary for operating the monitoring system. It can be "fed" with existing SOR data and, in the event of an error, also outputs SOR data for error location. The error location files are already processed in the NodeManger itself.
The OFM solution is also able to monitor doors, manhole covers, DOM hoods, water levels, moisture in sockets, etc. using sensors.
Various tested sensors, also with return channel capability, are available. After implementation, several sensors (for example 10) can be connected in series.
Graphical information systems are used to display the geo-location.
An interface to Google Earth Pro provides free the ability to save fiber data in Google Earth Pro, which will then accurately track any errors that occur Enable resolution of the fault location.
Integration with commercially available GIS systems
with JoSoft, the manufacturer of the well-known cable management software CableScout©, Now the first company has used the open interface Netconf / Yang to implement their new, simplified GIS system.
In addition to the open Netconf interface, SNMP is also available for integration.
